*The flush time of a lake is the amount of time that it takes for water coming into the lake to go out of the lake. In other words, it is the time that theoretically the lake completely empties out to be replaced by all "new" water. It is computed using a formula involving our lake volume which is 3.815 acre feet (204 acres X 18.7 feet average depth, 70 percent evapotranspiration rate, and the annual precipitation as measured in Newaygo.

Boats

Last summer, a pontoon boat took a tour of Bills Lake at 8:00 a.m.on the day after the Bills Lake Fourth of July celebration, arguably the most active weekend for boating of the season. Aboard were three census takers who counted boats, most of which were docked at that early morning hour. They also counted offshore boats which appeared to be in use (as opposed to offshore boats which had the appearance of being lawn ornaments) It is to be understood, of course, that the latter is a highly subjective judgment. Below is the result.
