2010 John Mulder Memorial Regatta at the Bills Lake Yacht Club

1st Place:

Large Boat - The father and son duo of Dave Vanderhyde and (Commander) Cody Vanderhyde garnered 1st place honors aboard their boat aptly named FAMILY TIES. Commenting on their easy victory, Dad expressed his surprise that he did not have to break out his secret stash of Somalian Pirates, their boarding party, sabers, cannons nor flesh-eating parrots in order to take and maintain the lead in this year's race.

Small Boat - Chris Genther, piloting his mid-sized Laser, ILL-LEGIT easily took honors this year and upon receiving his trophy was heard sighing how he was going to have to increase the size of the awards shelf in his office at Genther, Cheatum and Howe to accommodate yet another sailing prize.

2nd Place:

Large Boat - Nate Van Enk and Dave Huizenga took 2nd place honors aboard ARK-A-TECT. As true gentlemen of the sport, they surrendered last year’s #1 pennant to the Vanderhydes without having to be threatened by the Vanderhydes’ pirates.

Small Boat - Aaron “Lone Wolf” Mulder brought AIR LIFT across the finish line and complained that “I could have won this thing if I had had a politician on board to talk into my sail!”

3rd Place:

The Senior Executive Assistant to the Alternate Vice Commodore in charge of Trinkets and Trash indicated the Association eliminated 3rd place trophies this year so that funds could be re-distributed to prizes for the kiddies during the early morning events. Nevertheless, we herein recognize the following championship caliber 3rd place WINNERS in this year's race......

Large Boat - Ron “Crankshaft” Madsen and Steve “Ballast” Dunlap steered THE SHORT BUS between the finish line markers in front of a tight pack of contenders.

Small Boat - After a lengthy absence we welcomed back  “STONE COLD” Joe Welch aboard his graffiti-art entry, COUNTER SINK. He was seen polishing his make-believe trophy while saying “Never take me for granite!”

FINALLY: David and Martha Gabrielse were the last overall to finish. The pace of their craft, GABRIELSE'S HORN, was slower than a federal response to an oil spill and garnered them the BOTTOM FEEDER Trophy for the 2010~2011 off-season. Flush with pride they are confident they will find an alternate use for it other than gracing their mantel.
